Buffalo National River saw most visitors on record in 2024, NPS data says

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Visitorship at national parks, sites and monuments in Arkansas has finally returned to pre-pandemic numbers for some, according to new data released by the National Parks Service.

NPS recently released visitation figures for 2024 and reported 4,471,452 visitors to the seven national parks, sites and monuments in the Natural State, a 0.53 percent increase from 2023.

The seven parks in the state are Arkansas Post National Memorial, Buffalo National River, Fort Smith National Historic Site, Hot Springs National Park, Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, Pea Ridge National Military Park and President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site.

Arkansas parks department awards recreation grants to counties around the state

Of the seven, four saw an increase in visitorship from 2023 to 2024.

Those that saw a drop in visitorship were the Pea Ridge National Military Park, Fort Smith National Historic Site and Hot Springs National Park.

Buffalo National River saw its highest visitorship total for a year in 2024, with more than 1.6 million visiting the park. The park has had more than a million visitors for 19 consecutive years.
